Using Siri Shortcuts on iPhone to Start a Meditation Hands Free

One of the best things about Siri Shortcuts is that you can use a Shortcut to meditate without having to physically interact with your iPhone.  From the app settings you can set up our most popular meditations aimed at specific needs or times of day. You can set up your own favorites as well.

Set these up in the Shortcuts app on your iPhone as follows:

  1. Make sure Siri and Hey Siri are turned on in your iPhone's Settings
    1. Open Settings
    2. Tap Siri and Search
    3. Make sure Listen for "Hey Siri" and 'Press Home for Siri' or 'Press Side Button for Siri' are green to indicate they're turned on.
    4. Make sure Allow Siri When Locked is also toggled to green.
  2. Open the Shortcuts App
    1. Tap Gallery in the lower right hand corner.
    2. Scroll down and check the Shortcuts from Your Apps and tap See All to the right of the title.
    3. Check the meditations that are listed below the Ten Percent title.
      1. If you'd like to add any of these to your Shortcuts just tap the + sign on the right.
        1. Type in a name for the Shortcut.
        2. Tap Add to Siri.
      2. If you have a favorite meditation that's not on the list, take the following steps:
        1. Go back to the Ten Percent Happier app and play the meditation you'd like to add to Shortcuts all the way to the end, allowing the checkmark to populate when it finishes.
        2. Go back to the Shortcuts app and check the meditations listed under Ten Percent again. The meditation you just listened to should be listed there and you'll be able to add it as a Shortcut.

Use the Shortcut without touching the phone by saying, "Hey Siri Name" (whatever word or words you typed in for the Shortcut) and the meditation will begin. Don't say "Hey Siri play name." The addition of the word 'play' will change the command the iPhone use. It may take a moment for your meditation to start. Be patient.
