How do I enable Mindful Minutes with Apple Health App on iPhone?

Enabling Mindful Minutes with the Apple Health App:

In order to enable Mindful Minutes on your iPhone app, ensure:

  • Your iPhone is running iOS 12 or newer. Health app instructions and images shown here are from iOS 13.
  • You have the most recent version of the Ten Percent Happier app installed. Check for any app updates here
  • Note that you will only be able to feed mindful minutes done outside our app into your Ten Percent Happier meditation stats if you are running app version 5.1.6 or higher.

Upon first signing into the app you should be asked to "Enable Apple Health" but if you didn't turn it on then you can enable it any time from within the app with these steps.

  • Open the Ten Percent Happier app.
  • Tap Profile in the lower right corner.
  • Tap Settings (gear icon at top right of Profile tab).
  • Scroll down until you see CONNECT.
  • Toggle on (Red) the Apple Health button.

  • A new screen will pop up.
  • Tap Turn All Categories On. (After you tap it, it will change to Turn All Categories Off).
  • Toggle on (Green) Allow "TEN PERCENT" to Write Data.
  • Toggle on (Green) Allow "TEN PERCENT" to Read Data.
  • Your screen should look like this:

  • Tap Allow in the upper right corner. The screen will go back to the Ten Percent Happier settings page.
  • You now have a new line under the CONNECT heading in the Ten Percent Happier settings.
  • Toggle on (Red) Use Health data in stats.
  • Close the Ten Percent Happier app.
  • Open the Apple Health app.
  • Tap the 💙/Summary in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap Mindful Minutes
  • Scroll to the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap Data Sources & Access 
  • Under APPS ALLOWED TO READ DATA:
  • Ten Percent Happier should be toggled on (Green) so information from Ten Percent Happier will go to the Health app.

  • If you want external data synced to your Health app to be counted in your Ten Percent Happier stats, go back to the Ten Percent Happier Settings and toggle on Use Health data in stats.


Adding minutes manually using the Apple Health app:

First, make sure Ten Percent Happier is sharing data with the Health app using the instructions at the top of this page.

Then log the minutes:

  • On iOS 13, Open the Heath app -->  Browse --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> Add Data--> select the date and time you meditated (and be careful not to log a multi-day meditation; you need to change both dates for this to work properly).
  • On iOS 12, Open the Heath app --> Health Data tab --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> tap the "+" icon at the top right --> select the date and time you meditated (and be careful not to log a multi-day meditation; you need to change both dates for this to work properly).

If you accidentally add a multi-day meditation, you can delete it. Just tap “Show All Data” on the Mindful Minutes screen, tap “Edit” at the top right, and then tap the red circle by any meditations you wish to delete. Then again add the session correctly.


Troubleshooting issues with Apple Health app integration:

If your minutes aren't syncing to or from the Ten Percent Happier app, please double-check the following:

  1. Make sure Ten Percent Happier is sharing data with the Health app:
    On iOS 13, open the Health app --> Browse --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> Data Sources & Access --> make sure Ten Percent is listed under "APPS ALLOWED TO READ DATA."
    On iOS 12, open the Health app --> Sources tab --> Ten Percent --> make sure both "READ" and "WRITE" toggles are enabled (If not, tap "Turn All Categories On").
  2. On iOS 13, open Health app --> Browse --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> Show All Data.
    On iOS 12, open Health app > Health Data tab > Mindfulness > Mindful Minutes > Show All Data >> do you see all your logged sessions from Ten Percent in here?

If both of those look right, but your data isn't showing up properly in the Ten Percent Happier app, the next thing to try is to delete the Ten Percent Happier app - keeping your HealthKit data if/when prompted during the deleting process - then reinstall Ten Percent Happier and sign back in with your registered email address and password, and again authorizing to "Enable Apple Health". This should update and resync your account.

If you don't see the options to enable Read/Write toggles under Health app > Sources tab/Data Sources & Access> Ten Percent, you should delete the Ten Percent Happier app - keeping your HealthKit data if/when prompted during the deleting process - then reinstall and sign back in with your registered email address and password. When prompted, select "Enable Apple Health" and follow the enabling steps listed above to complete the integration.
