Unguided Meditation Timer in the App

For when you want to fly solo, the Unguided Timer is a great way to practice meditation on your own and still get credit for the time in your app.

The Unguided Timer in Ten Percent Happier on iPhone and iPad

Our popular Unguided Timer includes customizable time increments, unique bell sounds to start and end a meditation, optional interval bells, custom warm-up, and bonus time logging. Here's how to use it!

  • Tap Singles in the menu at the bottom of the screen. 
  • Scroll down to the Go Unguided section.
  • Tap Unguided Timer

To adjust the length of time (up to 90 minutes), swipe left and right along the vertical bars under the time setting.

You can also customize the following:

  • Start/End Bell - choose from a variety of available bell sounds. Scroll up and down on the pop-up menu for the options.
  • Interval Bell Timing - choose an optional interval for bell sounds throughout the meditation period.
  • Warm Up - choose an optional warm up period to give you time to get situated before your meditation begins.


If you keep meditating after your final bell rings, the timer will track Bonus Time until you tap Finish and Save. Once you tap Finish and Save, you have the option of choosing one of the following:

  • Add Bonus Time & Save - tap this to save your bonus time in addition to the time you originally set.
  • Finish & Save - tap this to save just the time you originally set on the timer.

The Unguided Timer in Ten Percent Happier on Android Cellphones and Tablets

  • Tap Singles in the menu at the bottom of the screen. 
  • Scroll down and tap Advanced and Unguided.
  • You can also open it directly by tapping this link from your mobile device.
You can change the amount of time before the ending bell by tapping the oval at the bottom of the screen with the number of minutes in it.

Don't forget to scroll to get to the longer meditation lengths (up to 90 minutes!) if you'd like to try that out.
